CRAIG MCCRACKEN!

I’ve been wanting to scream that out for a while.

I’ve been following Craig’s work since he first showed up on the Space-Ghost hosted ‘What a Toon’ which featured the debut of the first PowerPuff Girls short, as well as Craig wearing a scuba mask and flippers while winning the fashion portion of the contest.  (Don’t ask.)

So when he agreed to be a part of this season of the  Invitational, I realized that I am in fact dead, and this dream I’m living is merely the wild fantasies of dying synapses- the ramblings of consciousness freed from the physical demands of matter.

But until that rollercoaster is over and done with, I bring you Craig’s Invitational release- ‘Milton Glaser v. Magma Taishi’ and it’s paired t-shirt!  This is Craig’s tribute to the great Osamu Tezuka character Magma Taishi (known as Goldar in the states) done in the style of designer Milton Glaser’s ‘Dylan’ print!

So, with the intersection of PowerPuff Girls, Astro Boy’s creator, and Bob Dylan, I’d say this might be too much insanity for one print.  Be warned, your walls might explode in a candy colored rainbow of marshmallows once you tack this baby up.

“Milton Glaser v. Magma Taishi”   is an 18×24 4 color print with a clear varnish overlay- limited to 100 copies or one month, whichever comes first!

The t-shirt is a 100% ringspun cotton tee, with custom tags and METALLIC GOLD INK!

How cool is that?

And while we’re at it- how about my all time favorite musician doing a song for one of my all time favorite Cartoons?  Frank Black from the ‘Heroes and Villains’ PowerPuff Girls concept album!

The prints and shirts are available RIGHT NOW in the Invitational section of the Nakatomi Store!

Townsville is saved.

The time has come!

All of Nakatomi’s He-man prints from Mattel’s Under the Influence: He-Man art show are going to be available Monday morning around 4am CST in the Nakatomi Store.

For ‘Bound Before the Right Eye’ we’ll have the regular edition (pictured above), along with the Glow in the Dark (mock-up of the glow below) as well as the METAL edition (below as well.)

(Please note- this is a digital mock-up of the glow- it’s pretty close but my camera blows and I couldn’t get a clear pic of the actual thing glowing…)

The Metal edition is printed on metallic Currency Paper, and is suitable for shaving in, or signaling passing aircraft.

The regular and glow edition are by Doyle and Derington, signed by both artists, and are 12×24.  The metallic one is signed by Doyle!

We only have 17 of the glow and 24 of the metallic available at the time of writing!

And, don’t forget-

The He-Man: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly set of 2 prints (for a mere $50!) are up as well.  Both 19×20 prints are signed and numbered by Doyle.  We only have 40 of these sets available.

All these prints are in hand for immediate shipment, and will be for sale on Nakatomi Inc come Monday morning!

Pit bull rescue is something near and dear to my heart.  Between me and my wife, we’ve rescued well over a dozen stray and abandoned cats and dogs from the East Austin neighborhoods where we’ve lived over the years.

On one occasion, we found a Pit Bull/ Lab mix wandering a warehouse complex North of San Antonio.  We took him in, and tried to find his owner, to no avail.  So, we got his shots up to date, and eventually decided to keep him in our small house…with no yard.  That was a big mistake.  This VERY energetic and affectionate dog was just too much for our meager living space, and our very, very put-out cats.  BUT- certainly we could find a home for Magneto, right?

After a few desperate weeks of searching for someone who would take him in, we eventually gave up, and decided to get him into a no-kill shelter, where he could be taken care of until someone came along with the space to adequately house him.  Well, come to find out- there is no ‘no-kill’ shelter in Austin that would take in a Pit-Bull, mixed with anything.  The only shelter that WOULD take him in was the city-run Town Lake Animal Center.  At TLAC,  if an animal isn’t picked up w/in a short amount of time, they have to put them to sleep.  And that’s not from lack of caring- the people at TLAC genuinely care about the animals that come through there- but the lack of space, time, resources, funds- mandates that dozens and dozens of animals are put down almost daily.

So, we were in a tough spot- no-one would take Magneto in, he was way more dog than we could handle, and the only other option was to put him somewhere that would definitely lead to his death.  So, we did what we had to- we lied.

We found an animal shelter in a town South of Austin, that was no-kill, and took in Pit-Bulls.  But, we had to be residents of the town.  Or…at least the dog had to be.  So we lied about where we found Magneto, renamed him the much more friendly ‘Banjo’ and took him in.  That place was amazing- they had his photo up on their site, and in a few short weeks, his status was changed to ‘adopted.’  We had done it.

Now, my story is not unique at all.  Pit Bulls suffer unfairly from the stigma of being violent, so they’re notoriously hard to adopt out to caring families.  And unfortunately, a small portion of the people who do seek them out do so for illegal fighting.  Pits are bred in puppy mills while our shelter system has to put them to death by the thousands each year.  It’s truly a sad, sad situation.

So, when Hello Bully, a Pit Bull rescue in Pittsburgh put out a call for art donations for their yearly fund-raiser, I decided to do them one better, and create for them a print to promote the event, and for them to sell at the gala as well.  I straight up donated 50 prints to them (the White Dog/ Blue Background print- only available through them) and I also made 3 different colorways to sell through Nakatomi, with 50% of the proceeds going back to them.

Visit HelloBully.com, and check out the good work they’re doing to raise awareness, spay and neuter, and find homes for these great and loving dogs.

These 18×24  prints are available in 3 separate colorways (with a 4th colorway exclusive to the shelter) signed and numbered in different editions.  Up for sale right now in the Art Prints section of the Nakatomi store.

Detail from- "Batalla en la Esquina de Ditko y Kirby"

Black Cat Bones Gallery in Puebla, Mexico has commissioned this print from Tim Doyle as part of their Superhero art show.  He had previously created the sold-out ‘En Los Arboles’ print for their Twin Peaks tribute.

If anyone knows Doyle, they know He loves him some super-heroes. So when the opportunity came up for him to participate, he took the hidden pole down to his secret lair and banged this out (now, that just sounds dirty).

“Batalla en la Esquina de Ditko y Kirby” is a 13×24 4 color silkscreen print in a tiny edition of 90, and we will only have 70 for sale!

There is also a Glow in the Dark edition in a smaller run of 20.

The glow version was printed w/ a 5th layer of a transparent glow undercoat, so the whole print glows! Neat!

These prints will be on sale EARLY Monday morning on Nakatomi,  in the Tim Doyle section of the store.

They’ll retail at $30 and $50 for the glow. These were hand-printed by Clint Wilson in our Nakatomi Print Labs.

Anyone who knows him, knows HOW IMPORTANT this print is to Doyle personally!

Detail shot!

If you want, there’s a CRAZY big image of this in our Flickr HERE. Just click the ‘original size’ button, and wait for a SLOW LOAD.

Okay, Monday morning, like 4am CST, this’ll go up. Either stay up late, or get up early-Doyle’s last print had a larger run and sold out in 24 hours.  Good luck!

This print is insane.  Take a look at this-

IT’S ON RICE PAPER! Just beautiful.

International terrorist arms dealer, or slave to the torments of unrequited love?  Who says a modern chrome-headed man can’t be both?  This stunning seven color, artist pulled screenprint from Jacob Borshard’s ’80s Ukiyo-e’ series casts Destro in a moment of tender contemplation among fresh sprung cherry blossoms in his garden.  This print is a follow up to Jacob’s amazing The Great Pony Rebellion and The Sinking of the Oruko Ship.  The  Deluxe details on this print include platinum-tone metallic ink, a subtle watermark Kimono pattern and a split fountain on Destro’s cherry blossom clipping.   Printed on pearlescent metallic paper and limited to 25 prints in the standard edition.  Also offered in a separate Super Premium edition of only 8 Ginwashi Japanese rice paper prints.

The poem reads:
Cherry Blossom
Speaks to Destro
‘Tell Baroness
You love her!’

Also, Jacob presents his very first Gigposter!  For those of you who don’t know- Jacob slings a mean ukulele, and will be performing in just a few short days here in Austin-

This two color wonder was done up analog from start to finish, drawn by Jacob directly on the films used to burn the screens-  Now those are some Sharpie skills!  The poster measures 18″ by 24″ and comes on ultra-fancy pearlescent metallic paper.  A mega-limited edition of only 12 signed and numbered artist-pulled prints are offered in two colorways:  ‘Kawasock-me Green’ and ‘Infra-matic Blue’, both with ‘Fresh Bruise Plum’ linework.

Both of these prints are available RIGHT NOW in the Jacob Borshard section of the Nakatomi store!

Clint Wilson loves Todd Barry.  He was going to get a tattoo of Todd Barry’s face on his face, but I had to explain to him that he would have to go bald to really pull it off.  Now he’s waiting for a few years so his hair can catch up.  So, when Clint got the chance to do this poster for his New Haven CT show, he jumped at it!

This 18×24 hand-pulled silkscreen print is signed and numbered in an edition of 80- and there’s only 30 available!

Come and get ‘em in the GIGPOSTERS section of the Nakatomi Store!
