I’m a science nerd.  Since leaving formalized education, my thirst for knowledge and understanding has increased geometrically.  Kinda makes you wonder what the hell was wrong with Public Education that made me COMPLETELY uninterested in science in school.  (Possible answer- the problem might have been me.) But- no-one makes the beauty and wonder of science come alive more than Carl Sagan.  And nothing makes Carl Sagan come alive more than an ethereal piano melody and some slick auto-tuning-

Holy crap that gives me chills.  When I was a kid, I really wanted to be an astronaut. And then I realized that almost every Astronaut was an Airforce pilot, and I had glasses, so that ruled that out, and then I got fat, and once you realize it costs about a GRAND per ounce to shoot weight into space, that was bad as well.  So honestly, this art thing—it’s plan B.  Plan A was Mars.  Sorry.

OH! And if you want more of his royal Sagan-ness, head on over to Hulu, where they have the whole series streaming for free!

Back in January, WE REPORTED on how Robocop is stealing fried chicken and refrigerators in Korea.

I apparently underestimated Asia’s true love and respect for what we here in America commonly refer to the GROSSEST CHEAPEST FOOD IN THE WORLD.

What you’re about to see is an unexplainable Kit-Kat commercial featuring the cutest little girl in the world marching with the British Royal Guard, who apparently love’s them some Chocolate-Covered-Cookies, followed by the most holy, pastoral KFC commercial I have ever seen.

The strangest thing to me is the choral version of ‘My Old Kentucky Home’ playing in the background.   All my KFC experiences have featured crippling poverty, morbid obesity, and at least 2 screaming babies.  What the hell is going on in Japan?  Is their Fried ‘edible’ Chicken Parts…better than what we get here in the West?  Possibly so.

And then, for no reason at all- the flash of KFC currency?  Is the Colonel trying to ursup the world banking industry by starting up his own monetary markets?  Is this the secret to Japan’s economic success?  Have they moved from the Gold standard to the Golden-crispy POULTRY standard?  Is their economy CHICKEN-based?  Is the asian bird-flu our attempt at economic/currency sabatoge?

I really think this commercial raises more questions than it answers.  I would demand the the Colonel be brought before a court marshal, but I’m hard pressed to find out what branch of the military granted him his rank!  I’m going to write my elected official, and I suggest you do the same.  I’m starting with my Mayor-  Mayor McCheese.

jacob signing

Here’s Jacob Borshard, signing off on his newest Nakatomi Release, “The Sinking of the Oruko Ship”

Merman web

You can see some freaky-big images of this on our FLICKR feed HERE.

From Jacob’s series of 80’s Japanese Ukiyo-e drawings, this 8 color print measures 18×24, and is signed and numbered in an edition of 40.   The Japanese text is a translation of that traditional poem, written by a lone and forgotten Orko author, thousands of years ago-

Mer-man rose from the murky depths,

He turned our ship over and ate it up,

The waves washed me to the rocks,

Where a shell diver found me,

And took me to her Grandfather’s hut.

I was ill for weeks,

She brought me hot green tea,

And seaweed soup,

With Urchins,

Fresh cut,

Plucked by her small ocean hands.

One day, she took me to the sea,

Where she unfurled her tail,

And swam away.

Whenever I hear of Mer-man attacking,

I think of her small ocean hands.

Jacob is also releasing his newest Archetype Times table print, same dimensions of the last one (18×20)  in regular and platinum editions!

Clicky the image for BIGGIE!  There’s a lot of little detail on this one.

“Camino Cats” by Tim Doyle- for sale soon on Nakatomi Inc!  (And in color, natch!)

A bunch of VERY bad cats are stealing a shark away from the menacing clutches of Damien Hirst.  That’s not the story Doyle started out to tell when he started drawing this print, but by God, that’s where the pencils and inks took him.

Look for it soon!  Join us on Twitter to get the exact moment when it drops!

“Often imitated, never duplicated.” -Captain Lou Albano

05_Flatbed_2 - OCTOBER
What happens after the Guiding Light leaves our plane of existence?

Captain Lou Albano died today. For those of you not obsessed with wrestling in the 70s-80s, Captain Lou was the wrestler/ manager that brought wrestling to the mainstream by initiating the Rock n’ Wrestling Connection in the early 80s. By playing the part of Cyndi Lauper’s dad in her videos, Albano opened a door that would change wrestling forever. Not bad for a quick acting gig.

Plus, he played Mario on the Super Mario Brothers Super Show. That alone made him twenty-times radder than most any person who has ever walked this Earth. He even did a little dance.

What we should all take away from his life is that it’s okay to be yourself. Here’s a guy that pierced his face and stuck a rubberband in it. Why? Why the hell not? Do something weird, crazy, or nuts. It’ll keep them guessing.

And now, the YouTube tribute I found featuring his cover of the NRBQ song “Captain Lou.” Come on, he’s singing about himself! That’s awesome.

fraction

Hey, I know that shirt!  Matt Fraction is the current writer of Iron Man (among other great books).  Iron Man is my all-time favorite super-hero.  So when eagle-eyed Nakatomi agent at large and Baseball Fan, Alan Reynoso passed this clip on to me, I just about squee-ed.

Matt there, (and he is a WRITER- not an artist, as MLB credits him …duh!) is rocking Paul Pope’s invitational T-shirt from a few months back.

Being a life-long shellhead fan, this was a huge bonus for me.  And it looks like Matt there is a life-long fan of the color black.

See the clip HERE.

Do you doubt my Iron Man loving ways?  LOOK:

That’s me surveying my collection of Iron Man statues.  I’m sorry you had to see that.

And, just in case you were wondering, if you ordered JUST a Paul Pope shirt, you got your order, if you ordered the print and shirt and live in the US, you got the shirt, if you ordered the Print and shirt and live overseas…you’ll be getting your shirt and print VERY shortly.
