So, we’ve been working on this one for a while, and it’s JUST NOW able for us to announce it-

Famous Monsters of Filmland holds a place near and dear to all our hearts here at Nakatomi.  FMoFL is the fulcrum around which our nerdness spins.  The legacy of Forrest J Ackerman and crew lives large in our psyche.

So, imagine our surprise to get a call from Famous Monsters of Filmland saying they want to work with US, and they’re already fans of our work!  So we’re proud to announce 2 SDCC limited edition prints from Nakatomi studios’ own print shop!

We tapped the artistic mastery of Nick Derington, the lead animator on A Scanner, Darkly,  comic book illustrator, and  all around renaissance man, to produce both prints!

Nick drew up this stunning print that encapsulates everything we’ve ever loved about monsters, all at once:

Famous

This is an 18×24 hand-pulled silkscreened print, limited to 225 copies world wide, and Famous Monsters is JUST GIVING IT AWAY to people at the booth this weekend at the convention!  RUN, don’t walk down there AS FAST AS YOU CAN!  Nakatomi SHOULD have some of these available later.

And…since this will be the first convention since the passing of the man, the myth, the legend himself, Forrest J Ackerman, FM asked us to pay tribute!

Forrest

A 12×18 2 color hand-pulled silkscreeen print, this is limited to less than 100 worldwide, and will only be available at the Famous Monsters booth at  Comic-Con this year.  Signed and numbered by the artist, this is sure to be gone FAST, and will NOT be available later on Nakatomi, so don’t sit on your hands…get down there!

Trust us, this is just the start of Nakatomi and Famous Monsters of Filmland!

AAF 3

Back in 2001-2003, Nakatomi founder Tim Doyle kept a comic book diary.  Every day, he did a 3-panel strip, depicting what he did that day.  Often humourous, sometimes sad, these comics were collected on a monthly basis and distributed around Austin in comic shops and coffee shops and bookstores…for free, under the title of ‘Amazing Adult Fantasy.’   And, due to popular demand, he started collecting these issues into 6-month books.  The first 3 six month chunks were released in 2003, and those books have been out of print for years.  BUT- in preparing the Nakatomi Silkscreen shop (meaning, cleaning the garage), we stumbled across a large stash of those collections, and now have the final copies of Amazing Adult Fantasy Volumes 1-3 up for sale in the Accessories section of the Nakatomi store!

I’m in love.  At 0:50 into the video, that girl starts talking about Pokemon, and she’s slightly crosseyed.  Therefore…I am now in love.  And it doesn’t hurt that she’s dressed like Jane from Tarzan.

And follow that kid’s advice- just get everything you can, as this Pokemon stuff is going to be worth a lot of money in the future…

So a few months back, the fine folks (read- Jensen) at Gallery 1988 came to Nakatomi to create a poster for their show.  And then those plans were quickly scrapped in favor of doing the actual SHOW poster to promote the event!

As intimidating as it was following in the footsteps of the previous 2 AMAZING show prints by Chris Lee, Andrew Wilson & Scott Campbell, we bucked up and went right at it-

“All Those Wonderful Toys” is an 18×24 3 color silkscreen print, with metallic silver, limited to 100 copies, and is signed and numbered by the artist, Tim Doyle.

Here’s a detail shot-

So, how do you get one of these?  Well- head on over to Gallery 1988’s site and make sure you give them a buzz or drop them an E-Mail to let ‘em know!  Only 50 prints will be available at the show!

Now- there’s also a contest for this print- if you can be the one to name ALL the movie references in this print, you win a whole mess of free prints, some worth a pretty penny.  But not from me, from Gallery 1988- so again- if you want to enter, they have a key and everything over THERE.

Don’t go sending me your answer keys, it’ll make me all sad that your reading comprehension skills are so low, dig?

Here’s a secret- for those of you who were following Doyle’s Flickr account about a month back, he had ACCIDENTALLY posted the answers to the contest (this was before we even had the idea of a contest, so no big).  See what happens you don’t pay attention?

While you’re busy scrambling over there to follow Doyle on Flickr, go ahead and sign up for the mailing list while your at it, eh?  ‘Cause once Gallery 1988 sells outta their copies, Nakatomi will only have 18 for sale, and you don’t wanna miss when those are going to drop.

You’ve been warned!

Special thanks to Jensen for the gig, and to Clint Wilson for the printing assist, as this was the first print out of the newly completed Nakatomi Print studio!

murray2ndeditionstacked72dpi

More than anything else that’s been on Nakatomi, we get constantly asked to re-print the Murray Times Six print.  Well- we ain’t gonna do that, BUT- you can now get the same image as a set of 6 individual 6″x6″ vinyl stickers for $12- now available in the Accessories section of the Nakatomi store!

Printed w/ the same care as our Change Into a Truck sticker, these will last forever on whatever you stick ‘em on!

Rebbie Jackson\’s \”Centipede\” from 1984

Tigers, fake plastic snakes with twinkling eyes, lightning bolt hands, zombie-like angular dancing and, yes, the occasional Centipede.  It’s so close to making sense (in that “early 80’s video” sort of way), that the fact that it doesn’t come together just makes it disturbing.
